OPEN CALL - DÉRAPAGE 26 (french below) In May 2026, the Grande soirée de projection Dérapage 26 will once again be part of the Sommets du cinéma d’animation at the Cinémathèque québécoise. It’s time to create, assemble, and edit a captivating, non-narrative, sound-based film of less than 3 minutes, and submit it before April 10, 2026. Dérapage offers a unique opportunity to submit a non-narrative film—one that seeks neither to tell a story nor to convey a message. A film where images and sounds aim to subvert traditional narrative conventions, creating visual compositions that may be expressive, emotional, or purely aesthetic. During the Grande soirée de projection, DÉRAPAGE showcases striking works—both local and international—that play with form, color, light, sound, texture, reality, and imagination, offering audiences an unconventional cinematic experience. C’est le temps de préparer, assembler, monter un film captivant, non narratif, sonorisé, de moins de 3 minutes pour le faire parvenir avant le 10 avril 2026. Dérapage vous offre une occasion unique de soumettre un film non narratif qui ne vise ni à raconter une histoire, ni à transmettre un message. Un film où les images et les sons cherchent à subvertir les conventions narratives traditionnelles pour créer des compositions visuelles qui peuvent être expressives, émotionnelles ou purement esthétiques. Lors de la Grande soirée de projection, DÉRAPAGE offre à voir des oeuvres captivantes, locales et internationales qui jouent avec la forme, la couleur, la lumière, le son, la texture, le réel et l’imaginaire afin de vous faire vivre une expérience cinématographique non conventionnelle.   Humbled to be among such incredible talent at this year's virtual version of the festival. Each piece was a joy to behold. My piece was the shortest in the festival coming in at just 20 seconds (in honor of the undeniably unpredictable year that was 2020). The live screening was like watching experimental / moving image works among friends. Highly recommend (même si votre français est au mieux médiocre).
