About Legit Fests

Legit Fests is a free research tool for filmmakers. We help you check a festival's legitimacy and industry clout before you pay submission fees.

What we do

  • Score festivals 0–100 on legitimacy and industry clout signals (accreditations, screenings, history), then assign a tier: A, B, C, or Warning
  • Surface structural red flags and patterns associated with award mills (Warning means red flags in our data — not a confirmed scam)
  • Aggregate festival industry news and filmmaker reputation signals
  • Let users research, compare, report, correct, and watchlist festivals

Our standards

  • No paid placement; no festival can pay for a tier or score — including any sponsored, featured, or promoted slot.
  • Scores (0–100) and tiers (A, B, C, Warning) come from structural signals in our data, not from advertising relationships.

Help us improve listings

Spot wrong facts, outdated fees, or scam patterns? Filmmakers and festival teams can both submit.

Reddit API use

We use the Reddit API only to read public posts and comments in film-related communities (for example r/Filmmakers, r/shortfilm, r/Screenwriting) when those discussions mention festivals in our database.

  • Read-only access to public content
  • Used to improve scam/legitimacy research for filmmakers
  • We do not post, vote, message users, or collect private account data
  • Matched discussions may appear as reputation signals or source links on festival pages
