Champions of independent filmmaking, we've screened over 400+ short films in EdFringe since 2014. Do remember that we operate within the Edinburgh Festival Fringe - the World's largest arts festival. In 2026 there are over 3700 shows! As an event, we play out like any other theatre or comedy show on sale in the festival - we have to get in and get out within our given time slot so we have a non-traditional film festival format. EdFringe IS the networking event, we're just part of it and if your film is selected, we're probably the cheapest way to have an official connection to it. Just launched!! Main Selections 2026 Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35Otls9p2zE Nightpiece Film Festival 2026 will be the 13th consecutive season since the event's Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut in 2014. We are champions of independent filmmaking and do our best to support the filmmakers we showcase. The 2026 dateline is announced as Mon 24 - Sat 29 August 2026. The event has now screened over 400+ multi-genre short films by filmmakers from over 70 countries across the World. We showcase content in one of EdFringe's most comfortable venue spaces; the 152 capacity amphitheatre, theSpace @ Symposium Hall (v43) on Hill Square off Nicolson Street. As ever, we are looking for short form work from across the globe with a particular interest in premiere material. Long established within the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the World's Largest Arts Festival is a great focal point to launch your film. Nightpiece might be one of thousands of shows in the packed programme but it's an awesome chance to experience the city and get networking with fellow creatives. Organised and hosted by filmmaker Al Carretta, the programming draws a particularly focus on filmmakers who achieve exceptional output on limited resources. On a total spend of around £85k, Carretta has delivered and distributed 25 indie feature films, since 2010. Within this figure, he's also developed the film festival year on year. With all output delivered with no external funding Carretta is exceptionally well versed in the financial difficulties faced by filmmakers at all stages of the production process. It was an honor for our film The Commedia to be included in the lineup for Nightpiece at the world renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival! Unfortunately, while I was unable to attend in person to join in the great networking opportunities, our representative for the film had such a great experience attending. We were among a great lineup of high quality films at the festival. Al was incredibly communicative and put together a great early picks trailer to promote the event. Definitely hope to do it again!
Fantastic film festival event that takes place in Edinburgh every year. It is brilliantly organised by passionate people committed to promoting independent films and filmmakers.
Was super stoked to make it out and be a part of this, really look forward to coming back in the future!
FilmFreeway reviews are filmmaker opinions, not our score. Cross-check red flags before paying fees.
Live web research is off to control API cost. This shows cached scheduled research when available, plus analysis from our database.
Hard research (cheap model + thorough prompt) runs on a cron for suspicious festivals; a biweekly job refreshes others. No live API calls from the site.
Scores are calculated from structural indicators: accreditations, physical screenings, award category count, submission frequency, and acceptance rate. Higher scores reflect more verifiable legitimacy signals.
