Taking place open-air at various locations, the festival showcases the latest short films from around the world while also providing a stage for local, independent, and underrepresented voices. What started as a small open-air event has grown into a part of Germany’s festival landscape, attracting around 2,000 visitors annually. Taking place in extraordinary open-air settings, OpenEyes creates an immersive and vibrant atmosphere where cinema comes alive. With a strong focus on innovation, diversity, and new perspectives, the festival showcases films that push boundaries and challenge conventions—works that rarely find their way to traditional festivals or cinemas. The 30th edition will take place at 'Schlossparkbühne' (Castle-Park Stage) Marburg and additional venues across the city. — Seit 1994 ist das OpenEyes Filmfest eine Plattform für außergewöhnliche, unabhängige Kurzfilme. Was einst als kleine Open-Air-Veranstaltung begann, hat sich zu einem festen Bestandteil der deutschen Festivallandschaft entwickelt und zieht jährlich rund 2.000 Besucher:innen nach Marburg. In einzigartigen Open-Air-Kulissen entfaltet sich eine mitreißende Atmosphäre, in der Kino lebendig wird. Mit einem klaren Fokus auf Innovation, Diversität und neue Perspektiven präsentiert OpenEyes Filme, die Grenzen ausloten und Konventionen hinterfragen—Werke, die oft keinen Platz auf traditionellen Festivals oder im Kino finden. Die 30. Ausgabe des Festivals findet auf der Schlossparkbühne Marburg sowie an weiteren Spielorten in der Stadt statt. ________________ ORGANIZATION Since 2021, the festival has been organized by the nonprofit “Verein zur Förderung der Filmkultur in Marburg e.V." (Association for the Promotion of Film Culture in Marburg e.V.). It operates with a year-round team and about 80 volunteers, collaborating with regional and national cooperation partners. It also conducts its own seminar at Philipps University in Marburg and is a member of various networks and associations. The festival office and film archive are located in Marburg, Germany. — Seit 2021 wird das Festival vom gemeinnützigen "Verein zur Förderung der Filmkultur in Marburg e.V." organisiert. Es wird von einem ganzjährigen Team sowie etwa 80 freiwilligen Helfer:innen getragen und arbeitet mit regionalen und nationalen Kooperationspartnern zusammen. Zudem bietet das Festival ein eigenes Seminar an der Philipps-Universität Marburg an und ist Mitglied in verschiedenen Netzwerken und Verbänden. Sitz des Festivalbüros und des Filmarchivs befinden sich in Marburg, Deutschland. ________________ FILM PROGRAM The OpenEyes Film Festival presents a carefully curated selection of 100–120 international short films across categories such as fiction, documentary, experimental, animation, and music video. The competition program is designed to showcase a spectrum of originality and innovation across multiple dimensions, celebrating a mix of unique techniques, engaging aesthetics, and groundbreaking ideas, while also embracing cultural richness and tackling pressing societal issues. Das Wettbewerbsprogramm zielt darauf ab, ein Spektrum an Originalität und Innovation in mehreren Dimensionen zu präsentieren, indem es eine Vielfalt an einzigartigen Techniken und ansprechenden Ästhetiken sowie bahnbrechende Ideen hervorhebt, kulturelle Vielfalt respektvoll integriert und sich aktiv mit aktuellen gesellschaftlichen Herausforderungen auseinandersetzt.
