SHORT UP ROUEN British and Irish short film festival was known as "This is England short film festival" up until April 2026. It was originally named as a nod to Shane Meadows' iconic mid-naughties feature film and subsequent tv series; our first few editions were indeed exclusively focused on English short films as a way to build a cultural bridge between Rouen and our English twin city, Norwich. Over the years and due to its growing from strength to strength, the festival opened up to a greater array of fascinating shorts coming from all nations & regions of the UK + Irish-British coprods - hence a new, more generic name - to include all formats: fiction, animation, documentary, young audience. The festival is held every year in Rouen, Normandy, France. Between public screenings and specific primary-, secondary- and high-school student screenings - 3 sub-selections of approximately 8 shorts out of the full selection of 50-60 shorts - in over 50 screens across Normandy, the festival reaches out to over 20,000 people aged 8 to 100 years old!

Can't recommend This Is England enough. A wonderful festival run by lovely, welcoming people who care a lot about the filmmakers' and audiences' experience. Brilliant screenings and Q&As, hospitality second to none. Were we drinking wine and eating oysters with the festival organisers at 11am one day? Yes, yes we were. Real sense of community. Rouen is also a gorgeous city. I'll definitely be back. Thank you for an amazing few days!
THE BEST!!! Beautiful place, wonderful people - thank you so much for having us <3
An incredible festival. Such wonderful hospitality, an brilliant selection of films with detailed Q&As and the networking was fantastic. All set in the wonderful city of Rouen. I highly recommend this festival and would submit again and hope to be back.
Amazing festival, really felt made for the filmmakers: to share work, meet and socialise in the beautiful town of Rouen. The biggest screen we've shown on and to a packed crowd. And all thanks to F**** and the incredible team.
A really great festival with wonderful programming and superb hospitality! What a blessing it was to be in the beautiful city of Rouen. I would not hesitate to submit here and share work in the future.
FilmFreeway reviews are filmmaker opinions, not our score. Cross-check red flags before paying fees.
Live web research is off to control API cost. This shows cached scheduled research when available, plus analysis from our database.
Hard research (cheap model + thorough prompt) runs on a cron for suspicious festivals; a biweekly job refreshes others. No live API calls from the site.
Scores are calculated from structural indicators: accreditations, physical screenings, award category count, submission frequency, and acceptance rate. Higher scores reflect more verifiable legitimacy signals.
