Overview
Action On The Side is a London-based filmmaking initiative that runs short-film challenges, including a 48-hour competition and a one-month weekend project, to help independent filmmakers develop skills, gain credits, and build community. It is notable for its tight production constraints and for screening completed work, making it a practical talent-development platform rather than a traditional curated film festival.[2][4][13]

Research
Live web research is off to control API cost. This shows cached scheduled research when available, plus analysis from our database.
Hard research (cheap model + thorough prompt) runs on a cron for suspicious festivals; a biweekly job refreshes others. No live API calls from the site.

How scoring works
Scores are calculated from structural indicators: accreditations, physical screenings, award category count, submission frequency, and acceptance rate. Higher scores reflect more verifiable legitimacy signals.
