Overview
The AmAuteur Film Festival, founded in Chicago in 2024 by Andy Krysiak, is a community-oriented festival dedicated to uplifting DIY, no- and low-budget voices from across the globe. It challenges conventional film festival norms by prioritizing the filmmaker's vision and celebrating the authenticity of independent, often experimental, creations. The festival aims to foster community and give back all profits to the filmmakers, distinguishing itself from more commercially driven events [ellahardie.substack.com, linkedin.com/posts/andy-krysiak-b098a71b0_im-a-bit-late-on-this-post-but-better-late-activity-7396956360699072512-dJWg, prospeo.io].

Research
Live web research is off to control API cost. This shows cached scheduled research when available, plus analysis from our database.
Hard research (cheap model + thorough prompt) runs on a cron for suspicious festivals; a biweekly job refreshes others. No live API calls from the site.

How scoring works
Scores are calculated from structural indicators: accreditations, physical screenings, award category count, submission frequency, and acceptance rate. Higher scores reflect more verifiable legitimacy signals.
