Overview
BIPOC PoP 2026 Animation Festival is the film component of the BIPOC PoP event in Austin, an expo and symposium that brings together creators, scholars, and industry leaders in comics, gaming, animation, and multimedia arts. It is notable for centering BIPOC creative voices and for showcasing original animated shorts—and, in some descriptions, animated features—by both emerging and established BIPOC filmmakers, with awards such as Best Animated Short and Best Animated Doc. Its significance in the festival circuit comes from its role as a community-driven, publicly accessible platform for BIPOC visual storytelling within a broader interdisciplinary arts gathering.
