This is not your run of the mill festival. Communication was extraordinary given I’m in Australia and when there were initial glitches with my application as a first time film maker and novitiate to FF the organisers were very helpful and the issue was resolved. Our film The Witchdoctor and the Windmill was selected as a nominee with 6 other films as Best Indigenous Film and ended up with Best First Time Filmmaker Feature! Stunned that people could ‘see’ our film in its context and very appreciative of this Festival. Highly recommend.
The Cannes Film Festival once again proved why it remains one of the most influential events in world cinema. This year’s festival delivered a compelling mix of bold auteur filmmaking, emerging international voices, and high-profile premieres that balanced artistic ambition with mainstream appeal. What stood out most was the diversity of storytelling on display — from intimate character-driven dramas to politically charged narratives and visually experimental works. Several films generated significant critical buzz for their originality and emotional depth, reinforcing Cannes’ reputation as a launchpad for awards-season contenders and future classics. Beyond the films themselves, the festival atmosphere reflected the evolving state of global cinema. Streaming platforms, independent productions, and international co-productions all shared the spotlight, highlighting how filmmaking continues to adapt in a rapidly changing industry. The red-carpet glamour remained iconic, but the real strength of Cannes was its celebration of creative risk-taking and cinematic craftsmanship. While some selections divided critics, that unpredictability is part of what makes Cannes essential viewing for film lovers. Overall, this year’s festival was a strong reminder that world cinema is thriving, innovative, and capable of provoking meaningful conversation across cultures.
The communication and engagement with this festival is excellent. They may provide category suggestions when appropriate. Their recognition of winners is also elevated and therefore meaningful. I sincerely appreciate this organization.
A prestigious film festival that celebrates creativity from around the world. Keep going !
The evaluation already recognizes us as finalists in the festival, and for that I feel deeply honored and grateful. My warmest congratulations to the entire organization. This is an exceptional institution one that creates major opportunities and opens new horizons for emerging filmmakers and artists from every corner of the world. It is far more than a festival; it is a true meeting point of culture, vision, and artistic expression. A place that elevates creators and gives them the chance to begin a journey from the very stage every artist dreams of reaching. Being selected as a finalist among works from across the globe is already a tremendous distinction for us and for our film Skirites ''The Elite Force of King Leonidas''. It confirms that stories driven by passion, history, and artistic truth can travel beyond borders and touch international audiences. I will return with more news very soon, as I will be attending the Cannes events on June 27, 2026, together with my wife and the Head of Communications of our film. Until then, I wish health, inspiration, and success to all of you. Spyros Fren Director of Skirites – The Elite Force of King Leonidas
