Overview
Animafest Zagreb, founded in 1972, is the World Festival of Animated Film and the second oldest festival globally dedicated entirely to animation, renowned for showcasing the best short and feature animated films from around the world[1][2]. It is the only A-list film festival in Croatia and holds significant prestige as winners of its Short Film Grand Prix directly qualify for the Academy Awards (Oscars), alongside eligibility for Annie and European Animation Awards[1][3]. Built on the legacy of the Zagreb School of Animation, the festival is celebrated as a 'filmmakers for filmmakers' event and ranks among the four major animation festivals worldwide alongside Annecy, Ottawa, and Hiroshima[2][7].
