Overview
The Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) is a 30+ year-old, Oscar®-qualifying festival established in 1986 that showcases over 120 diverse, independent films from 50+ countries, including features, documentaries, and shorts. It is notable for its mission to present "international, independent, and eye-opening" cinema that fosters community through filmmaker chats and Q&As, while requiring all selections to be Edmonton premieres. As one of North America's most prestigious indie events, EIFF holds significance as a final qualifying festival for Academy Awards in Live Action, Documentary, and Animation short categories, with past winners like *An Irish Goodbye* going on to win Oscars.

Research
Live web research is off to control API cost. This shows cached scheduled research when available, plus analysis from our database.
Hard research (cheap model + thorough prompt) runs on a cron for suspicious festivals; a biweekly job refreshes others. No live API calls from the site.
