The Hiroshima International Animation Festival was a biennial festival founded in 1985 under the spirit of 'Love and Peace' to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the atomic bombing, specializing in international short animated films. It was recognized as one of the world's 'four great animation festivals' alongside Annecy, Ottawa, and Zagreb, and served as an Academy Award and Annie Award qualifying event. The festival concluded its run in 2020, having been the first ASIFA-endorsed animation festival in Asia and a major platform for cross-cultural exchange in visual media art.
