Overview
The Alexandria Mediterranean Film Festival, officially the Alexandria International Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries, is one of Egypt’s oldest film festivals, established in 1979 and held in Alexandria, usually at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. It is notable for its strong Mediterranean focus, with official competition films drawn mainly from Mediterranean countries while also presenting broader international works in parallel sections. The festival showcases feature films, shorts, documentaries, animated and experimental shorts, and it is significant as a regional platform that promotes film culture and exchanges among filmmakers across the Mediterranean and beyond.
