Overview
The Chicago Underground Film Festival (CUFF) is the world's longest-running underground film festival, founded in 1993 to showcase defiantly independent, experimental, and avant-garde cinema that radically dissents from Hollywood and mainstream indie conventions. It is notable for providing a vital platform for marginalized artists and genre-defying works often overlooked by market-driven festivals, featuring experimental narratives, avant-garde documentaries, animation, and boundary-pushing media art. CUFF holds significant status in the film circuit as a key historical event in underground cinema, recognized for its excellent curation and role in cultivating an audience for subversive, unconventional filmmaking.

Research
Live web research is off to control API cost. This shows cached scheduled research when available, plus analysis from our database.
Hard research (cheap model + thorough prompt) runs on a cron for suspicious festivals; a biweekly job refreshes others. No live API calls from the site.
