Overview
The Slamdance Film Festival is an annual, artist-led event in Los Angeles dedicated to emerging artists and low-budget independent films (under $1 million), famously operating under the mantra "by filmmakers, for filmmakers" where the program is selected entirely by a committee of filmmakers. Notable for its "anti-algorithm" approach and history as Sundance's "edgier sibling," it has launched the careers of visionary directors like Christopher Nolan, the Russo brothers, and Rian Johnson. As an Academy Award® and BAFTA® qualifying festival for short films, Slamdance holds significant importance in the circuit as a grassroots platform that prioritizes unfiltered creative voices over commercial distribution.

Research
Live web research is off to control API cost. This shows cached scheduled research when available, plus analysis from our database.
Hard research (cheap model + thorough prompt) runs on a cron for suspicious festivals; a biweekly job refreshes others. No live API calls from the site.
